Racism in schools; Sint-Pauls Campus College Waregem

Updated: Nov 16, 2020

On March 11th, High school in Belgium, Sint-Paulus Campus College Waregem posted the following photo to the school social media page. The school promotes itself as an institute that helps young people be “respectful, responsible, committed and social”. However, notice the one in the middle row pulling her eyes.

From ‘konichiwa’ and ‘ni hao’ to being called ‘Bruce Lee-ski’ in Prague and Cubans pulling back their eyes, pulling back your eyes is a very common racist gesture towards Asian people.

Racism is unacceptable in the 21st century. Differences in religion, dress, or culture are no excuse to treat Asians in an impudent manner. This is constantly becoming a problem in schools and institutes around the world, and at this point, we should impress the seriousness of racism on the students.
